JANUARY 2026 - Library Progress and Updates: Happy New Year!

As we welcome a new year, we are excited to share continued progress on the renovation of the Main Library. Right now, it truly feels as though we are constructing an entirely new library within the footprint of the old building. December brought important milestones, including trenching into the concrete slab to install new plumbing lines and additional interior ceiling work. These behind-the-scenes improvements are essential steps, and we are grateful to see the project moving forward smoothly (see pictures below).

In the meantime, we hope you will stay connected with us through our many programs. Consider joining one of our lectures or book clubs this season. They are a wonderful way to engage with fellow readers and our community. We also look forward to welcoming our returning seasonal residents, many of whom may be discovering our temporary space for the first time. We invite you to visit us at Rimrock Plaza, located at 4721 E. Palm Canyon Drive, at the intersection of Gene Autry Trail and Highway 111.

Finally, I am honored to share that I have been invited to participate in this year’s Palm Springs International Film Festival. I will be in conversation with Los Angeles City Librarian John Szabo following the screening of the documentary The Librarians on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Tickets sold out almost immediately, but we hope you will have a chance to watch the film once it becomes available through streaming services. To those who secured tickets, we look forward to seeing you there! Thank you to the Palm Springs Public Library Foundation for their work in bringing this important film to the Film Festival.

Wishing you a wonderful, book-filled start to 2026.
