South Palm Canyon Drive Bridge Project
🚧 SOUTH PALM CANYON BRIDGE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION ALERT: Week of April 28, 2025
Crews will remove the center median on South Palm Canyon Drive, north of Sunny Dunes Road, this week in preparation for long-term traffic control starting the week of May 5. Please observe signage and use alternate routes. Businesses remain OPEN during construction!
Traffic impacts: Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Inside lanes closed in both directions from south of Camino Parocela to the Tahquitz Creek bridge
- No left turns from S. Palm Canyon Drive onto E. Sunny Dunes
- Western sidewalk on the bridge remains closed
Crews will continue working outside the nesting bird buffer zone to meet environmental requirements.

Monday through Friday | Work hours will vary to limit disruption.
The lane closures are necessary for palm tree relocation activities. Crews will continue to work outside of the non-disturbance buffer for nesting birds to comply with environmental requirements.

‼️⚠️ SOUTH PALM CANYON BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ALERT: Week of April 14 ‼️
Work continues on the South Palm Canyon Bridge Project. Here’s what to expect for the week of April 14:
- Intermittent southbound lane closures on S. Palm Canyon Drive
- Monday, April 14 through Friday, April 18
- From 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily
- Sidewalk on the west side of the bridge will be closed
- Pedestrian access will remain available on the east side
- The Sunline bus stop will remain open
Please use alternate routes to avoid delays and help reduce congestion in the construction zone. Sidewalk demolition and utility relocation are underway to prepare for demolition of the western bridge span.

SOUTH PALM CANYON BRIDGE PROJECT UPDATE, APRIL 3, 2025
Construction originally scheduled to begin Monday, April 7, is temporarily postponed.
The construction team is re-evaluating environmental mitigation measures before moving forward. An updated schedule will be shared once available.

A new state-of-the-art structural, seismic and hydraulic-designed bridge over Tahquitz Creek at South Palm Canyon Drive will replace the current bridge, constructed in 1930, which is now outdated and structurally deficient. Construction will begin in February and will continue until late 2026. The traffic on South Palm Canyon Drive between E. Sunny Dunes and E. Mesquite will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this time. Please see flyers below for more information about the project.
