INDIAN CANYON DRIVE CITY SEWER PROJECT UPDATE
✅ Project Progress
The contractor has successfully installed approximately 3,000 feet of sewer pipe out of the total 8,700 feet planned. Work is ongoing to complete the installation of manholes, which is a necessary step before final paving can occur.
⚠️ Temporary Road Conditions
Please note that the current road surface is temporary. Final paving , that meets The City of Palm Springs standards, will be completed once all underground work is finished. In the meantime, uneven surfaces are expected.
🚗 Traffic Pattern Changes
To accommodate construction, the roadway has been reduced to one lane in each direction after the Sunrise Parkway intersection toward the freeway (northbound and southbound). This lane reduction is necessary to complete the work and for the safety of both workers and drivers.
📢 Important Reminders for Drivers
- This is an active construction zone.
- Reduced speed limits are posted and must be followed.
- Construction signage is in place to alert drivers of lane closures, uneven pavement, and other conditions.
- Please drive cautiously and allow extra time for travel through the area.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve our city’s infrastructure.
Please see below for additional information about this project.:
INDIAN CANYON DRIVE CITY SEWER PROJECT
START DATE: WEDNESDAY, JULY 23, 2025
ANTICIPATED COMPLETION DATE: MAY 2026
As part of the ongoing Indian Canyon Bridge Widening and Improvements project, the City of Palm Springs is installing approximately 8,900 feet of new sewer pipeline along North Indian Canyon Drive. This new infrastructure will extend from south of Palm Springs Station Road to W. Tramview Road.
Construction is projected to continue through May 2026.
Traffic control for the Indian Canyon Sewer Project was placed south of Palm Springs Station Road on 9/4/2025. Traffic will is reduced to one lane in each direction shifted to the southbound lanes for a portion of the road.
The installation will involve a combination of tunneling beneath concrete pavement in certain areas and open trench methods for the majority of the pipeline. As work progresses, the project will impact both the No. 1 North and Southbound lanes of Indian Canyon Drive, necessitating periodic lane closures in specific sections of the road.
Please exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and be aware of changing traffic patterns. The Construction Managers will be providing periodic updates on the project as it progresses.
PLEASE USE ALTERNATE ROUTES TO AVOID TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND EXPECT DELAYS AROUND THE AFFECTED AREAS.
GENE AUTRY TRAIL WIND WALL
Lane closure near construction site is ongoing
START DATE: JUNE 2025
ANTICIPATED COMPLETION DATE: DECEMBER 2025
Work is under way on the construction of an approximately 590' long brick wall along the North Gene Autry Trail corridor, an area we all know gets pummeled by strong winds and blowing sand - reducing visibility and creating sand dunes on the roadway.
The City Council, at its April 23, 2025 meeting, awarded a construction contract to Deark E&C Inc., in the amount of $2,195,800 million. The majority of the cost is covered by Measure A funds, a half-cent sales tax measure approved by Riverside County voters that provides dedicated funding for local streets and roads and invests in major regional transportation improvements
Work will continue through December 2025. More updates will be provided, including lane closures and other pertinent information.
Some construction photos can be seen on the sidebar of this page

TRIBAL PROJECT - CONSTRUCTION AT THE INTERSECTION OF LAWRENCE CROSSLEY AND DINAH SHORE
Granite Construction, for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, began work on the off-site improvements for a new gas station on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The project area is Lawrence Crossley Road and Dinah Shore Drive. The work will involve adding an island on Crossley and widening Dinah Shore at the intersection, adding turn pockets and accelerator lanes, and concrete improvements including curb, gutter, sidewalk, and ramps. Substantial completion is expected by the end of August. Final completion will occur once the new traffic signal poles come in. No concrete date for delivery of traffic signal poles, but updates will be provided.
The gas station will be built at the northwest corner of Lawrence Crossley and Dinah Shore and will include a fuel station with 24 gasoline/diesel fuel dispensers and a convenience store.
Please use alternate routes to avoid delays and backups near the closure areas.
There will be some lane closures but no full road closures are planned.

SOUTH PALM CANYON BRIDGE PROJECT
A new bridge under construction on South Palm Canyon Drive across Tahquitz Creek, just south of e. Sunny Dunes Road. The existing bridge, constructed in 1930, is outdated and structurally deficient. Also, the current bridge approach configuration creates a bottleneck for traffic on S. Palm Canyon Drive. Anticipated completion date is late 2026.
MILESTONE MARKER: Western bridge span demolition is finished.
Businesses are open during construction.
The construction team completed the western bridge span demolition. Work continues with shoring construction for the retaining walls and bridge abutment walls. Carpenters are working off-site to pre-fabricate forms that will be used to build the walls.

STORM DRAIN LINE 6, STAGE 3
ESTIMATED CONSTRUCTION START DATE: LATE 2027/EARLY 2028
The City of Palm Springs and the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (RCFC) are entering into a Funding/Cooperative Agreement for the construction of flood control improvements. The project consists of approximately 4,000 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe (30-60 inches in diameter) and related structures. This pipeline will collect stormwater from the area and convey it underground along Avenida Caballeros where it will connect to existing storm drain infrastructure on Vista Chino. The goal of this project is to improve stormwater conveyance, reduce flooding risks, and protect property in Palm Springs.
This project is a major undertaking and while the long-term benefits of a flood control project of this nature are undeniable, there will be significant disturbances to traffic and community activities near the construction zone. See location map and typical installation pictures below.
As of mid-2025 This project is in its initial planning stages; residents and the community will not experience any inconvenience from this project until the construction begins, which may tentatively break ground sometime in late 2027 to 2028.
IMPACTED AREA ONCE PROJECT COMMENCES WILL BE BOTH NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND LANES ALONG AVENIDA CABALLEROS BETWEEN FRANCIS DRIVE AND VISTA CHINO (HIGHWAY 111).
