UPDATE: DAYTIME WORK HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED; NIGHTTIME WORK BEGAN MARCH 3

In response to public concerns about heavy traffic congestion and long delays due to daytime lane closures and construction activities, the SR 111 Roadway Project team, in collaboration with the city of Palm Springs, is implementing a night work schedule to alleviate daytime disruptions related to this construction project.

Beginning the week of March 3, construction will take place Monday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. No work is scheduled for Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights. This schedule adjustment will significantly reduce daytime traffic congestion related to the SR111 Roadway Project while ensuring continued progress on roadway improvements.

Project timeline

Nighttime paving is expected to be completed by late March. Bus pad construction will follow at 11 SunLine bus stop locations within the project area. Prior to bus pad construction, updated schedule information will be available on the project website at www.SR111RoadwayProject.com.

Project completion is expected for the end of April 2025.

Why are Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail designated as Highway 111?

In 1991, at the request of the City of Palm Springs to acquire control of the section of Highway 111 (Palm Canyon Drive) that ran straight through the heart of downtown, the state Transportation Commission approved re-routing Highway 111 onto Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail, south to where it reconnects with Highway 111.
