Caltrans will begin work soon to rehabilitate pavement conditions on a section of Highway 111 that runs through the City of Palm Springs. Work will begin at Golf Club Drive at East Palm Canyon, then west on East Palm Canyon to Gene Autry Trail, north on Gene Autry Trail to Vista Chino, west on Vista Chino to Highway 111 (North Palm Canyon), then north to West Gateway Drive. Please see map below.
One lane in each direction will remain open during the rehabilitation work, which is expected to take up to 240 working days. Construction sign placement will begin the week of Dec. 9. Residents and businesses will be notified ahead of time when work will begin on their segment of the roadway.
Work operations will require lane closures during daytime work hours from Monday through Friday.
Why are Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail designated as Highway 111?
In 1991, at the request of the City of Palm Springs to acquire control of the section of Highway 111 (Palm Canyon Drive) that ran straight through the heart of downtown, the state Transportation Commission approved re-routing Highway 111 onto Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail, south to where it reconnects with Highway 111.
